The Highland cow has hardly ever any problem
when calving on account of the weight of the calf,
which is on average around 73 pounds(33kg) at
birth.
Losses of calves at birth are very minimal.Highland
bulls are used for crossbreeding with other breeds
of cattle to enable cows to calve without complications.
It is not unusual to see a Highland cow calve
at the age of 20, but they do best between 5 and
15 years old, when their milk yield is greater.
